It is often said that time is money; even if you disagree with this, you surely feel that time is an important asset. Time can be money, or time can be leisure, or time can be fun; whatever the case, time is important for many of us. And even though it might seem funny to figure out how to “keep conversations short,” you will also acknowledge that you often end up in conversations you would rather end quickly. Is Dilbert Okay For My Employees?

As a member of the business world, you are surely familiar with the Dilbert cartoon strip, and as a boss you probably even think a lot of the Dilbert strips are funny. After all, these cartoons are not making fun of you, right? But then again, when you start to see Dilbert strips tacked up on your employees’ cubicle walls, it is easy to start second-guessing this self-assuredness. Of course, at first, it feels like you are just being overly paranoid to think that a cartoon strip could have any effect on the morale of your employees, but it is also difficult to shed from your mind those articles that talked about how Dilbert actually can have a negative effect on employees. And so you are forced to ask the question for yourself: Are Dilbert cartoons bad for the morale of your employees?

First off all, one must remember that humor and laughter is good for morale. Certainly, these cartoons are posted on people’s walls because they induced a laugh, so this is a sign in the right direction.

But the issue, of course, is the fact that most of these laughs are induced by taking jabs at corporate culture. And when you see a cartoon on someone’s wall where the boss is made fun of, it is difficult to keep your mind from wandering to the question: Why did this employee post this particular cartoon on their wall? But the solution to the problem might be more complicated than just banning these comic strips. After all, it is unlikely that banning these strips would have any effect except to make employees think that you are out of touch with the way they feel.

Don’t just order that all comic strips be taken down from office walls; instead, you ought to take the time to look at these comic strips yourself. How To Manage Upset Customers

One of the biggest keys to success in your business will be making sure that you know how to manage customers who are upset, or who have a complaint about the way they have been handled by you, your employees, or your company.

When a customer is upset with you, they will be able to ruin some of your business prospects if their complaint is legitimate, and if they share their complaint with others, but when you are able to fix a situation with an upset customer, they will often be so impressed with the way you handled things that they will end up sending more customers your way!

Regardless of whether you feel their complaint is legitimate or not, the first thing you need to do is to acknowledge the problem; when you acknowledge that their complaint and convey that you understand the complaint, you will be on the right path to making the situation better.

Secondly, you should start taking steps to resolve the problem – but the mistake that many people make when trying to resolve a problem with a customer is that they allow the customer to dictate the terms of the resolution. It is a delicate balance to be helpful while still keeping the power in your hands, but this is an importance balance to maintain – otherwise, you may end up with a customer who is not satisfied no matter what you do.

Finally, it is important for you to recognize the fact that some customers actually will not be satisfied no matter what you do; these are the customers who tend to complain with every company they deal with, and the best way to deal with such customers is to do the best you can and then send them on their way!
